Frequently asked questions

Any major Australian pathology lab. Once you have a Clinic365 SMS referral, walk into any NATA-accredited pathology centre — Australian Clinical Labs, Sonic Healthcare networks (Douglass Hanly Moir, Laverty, QML, Western Diagnostic), Healius networks (Healius Pathology, Dorevitch), and others. Over 4,000 collection centres nationally. Choose whichever one is closest or has the most convenient hours.
Not at most centres. Most pathology labs accept walk-ins for blood, urine, and self-collect swab tests. Some smaller or busier centres may prefer a booking — check with the centre directly if you're unsure. The Clinic365 referral is valid at any major Australian pathology lab regardless.
Yes — any NATA-accredited pathology centre in Australia accepts the Clinic365 SMS referral. This covers all major networks and the smaller independent labs too. You don't have to use a specific provider — pick whichever is most convenient.
Bring your SMS referral (on your phone, or printed) and your Medicare card if you have one. If you don't have the SMS to hand, most pathology centres can look up your referral using your Medicare number or name and date of birth.
Most results come back within 24 hours of sample collection by SMS. Some confirmatory tests (some hepatitis follow-up tests, second-line syphilis testing) can take 2 to 4 business days for the full result set. A Specialist GP reviews every result before it's released to you.
Yes. The pathology lab treats your STI test like any other blood or urine test. Staff don't disclose which specific tests are being run. Results return to Clinic365 only — not to your regular GP, employer, school, or insurer. Notifiable infections are reported anonymously to state Departments of Health for surveillance, without your identifying information being shared.
No. You don't need to fast for any of the STI blood tests. Eat and drink normally before your visit. The only timing thing to be aware of: if a urine sample is needed (for chlamydia or gonorrhoea), hold the urine for at least 1 hour before collection so the bacteria concentrate in the first part of the stream.
Many pathology centres have Saturday morning hours. Sunday and public holiday hours vary — fewer centres are open. Check the specific centre directly for current hours. Booking your collection on a weekday is generally easier if your schedule allows.
Monday mornings and the first hour after opening are usually the busiest. Mid-morning, early afternoon (right after the lunch hour), and Saturday afternoons tend to have shorter waits. If you're going for a routine test, picking a quieter time means a faster visit.
Pathology tests are covered by Medicare and most Private Health Insurers. If you don't have Medicare or insurance, additional lab fees may apply — check with the lab you attend. The $39 Clinic365 fee covers the SMS pathology referral itself. If you test positive, the follow-up telehealth treatment consult is at no additional cost — cost should not be a barrier to treatment.
