Everything you need to know about chlamydia treatment online

Chlamydia Treatment Online is available by telehealth from anywhere in Australia through Clinic365. A Specialist GP consults with you by phone, arranges the appropriate treatment and sends your referral electronically to any pharmacy. No in-person visit is needed. The same expert care, from anywhere in Australia.

Chlamydia is the most commonly treated sexually transmitted infection in Australia. The good news is that it is highly treatable. According to the Australian STI Management Guidelines, the recommended first-line treatment is a short course of treatment taken for seven days, as per the current Australian STI Management Guidelines.

Treatment can be fully managed by telehealth — no physical examination or in-person visit is needed in most cases. Your Specialist GP will review your test results, confirm the diagnosis, discuss the treatment plan, and send an electronic treatment to your local pharmacy. The medication is inexpensive — approximately $7.70 with a concession card or $10 to $15 without. Most people experience no significant side effects from the treatment, though mild nausea is possible and can be reduced by taking the medication with food.

During treatment, you should avoid sexual contact for seven days after completing the full course of treatment. This applies even if your symptoms have resolved — the infection may still be present and transmissible before treatment is complete. Your partner or partners from the past six months should also be tested and treated, regardless of whether they have symptoms. Untreated partners are the most common cause of reinfection.

Partner notification is an important part of chlamydia management. Your Specialist GP can advise on how to notify partners, including anonymous SMS notification services if you prefer not to tell them directly. All recent sexual contacts should be treated at the same time to prevent ping-pong reinfection between partners.

A test of cure is recommended four weeks after completing treatment to confirm the infection has cleared. This is a repeat urine test that can be ordered through Clinic365 for $39. Retesting is also recommended at three months after treatment, as reinfection rates are high — approximately 20 per cent of people treated for chlamydia are reinfected within twelve months, usually from an untreated partner or a new sexual contact.

All treatment consultations at Clinic365 are conducted by Specialist GPs with extensive experience in sexual health medicine. During your telehealth consultation, your GP will review your test results, confirm the diagnosis, explain the treatment plan, and answer any questions you have. Prescriptions are sent electronically to your nominated pharmacy and can usually be collected the same day. Your GP will also discuss , safe sex practices during treatment, and when to resume sexual activity.

Follow-up care is an important part of treatment. Depending on the infection, your GP may recommend a test of clearance after completing treatment to confirm the infection has resolved, as well as a repeat screen at three months to check for reinfection. Both follow-up tests can be ordered through Clinic365 for $39 online. If symptoms persist or recur after treatment, your GP is available for reassessment by telehealth. Early detection and prompt treatment remain the most effective way to protect your sexual health and prevent complications.

Telehealth is particularly effective for sexual health consultations because most conditions can be accurately diagnosed from test results and a clinical history alone — a physical examination is rarely needed. This means you can receive the same quality of care from the comfort and privacy of your own home, without needing to take time off work or sit in a waiting room. All Clinic365 telehealth consultations are conducted by Specialist GPs with an interest in sexual health, ensuring you receive expert care regardless of where you are in Australia.
