Everything you need to know about an STI test online

An STI test online is the fastest, most convenient way to check your sexual health status in Australia. Clinic365 offers an STI test online for $39 — order from your phone in 60 seconds, no doctor call, no appointment, and walk into any pathology clinic nationwide. Your full STI/STD screen covers chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, HIV, and hepatitis, with results sent by SMS within 24 hours.

Sexually transmitted infections are far more common than most Australians realise. Chlamydia is the most frequently notified infectious disease in the country, with over 100,000 cases reported each year. Gonorrhoea rates have doubled in the past decade. Syphilis diagnoses are at their highest levels in decades — prompting the Australian STI Management Guidelines to recommend that both HIV and syphilis testing be included in every STI screen.

STI testing in your city: Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Canberra, Darwin, Geelong, Gold Coast, Hobart, Newcastle, Perth, Sunshine Coast, Sydney, Townsville, Wollongong. All cities use the same $39 online referral — walk into any local pathology lab.

An STI test online is also commonly searched as STD test, online STI screen, online STI/STD screen, or sexual health check. Whatever you call it, the Clinic365 STI test online process is the same: order from your phone in 60 seconds, receive a pathology referral by SMS, walk into any pathology clinic in Australia, and get your results by SMS within 24 hours.

Why choose an STI test online? An STI test online with Clinic365 removes the barriers that stop many Australians from getting tested — no GP appointment, no waiting room, no awkward conversations. You order in private from your phone, receive your referral by SMS, and visit any pathology clinic at a time that suits you. The $39 fee covers your online referral and Specialist GP oversight of your results. Pathology collection itself is bulk-billed through Medicare.

The most important thing to understand about STIs is that the vast majority cause no symptoms at all. Around 75 per cent of women and 50 per cent of men with chlamydia have no idea they are infected. Gonorrhoea, syphilis, and HIV can all be present without any noticeable signs. This is exactly why Australian clinical guidelines recommend routine screening based on sexual activity rather than waiting for symptoms to appear. If you are sexually active and under 30, annual chlamydia screening is specifically recommended. If you have multiple partners or are at higher risk, testing every three months is advised.

A standard STI screen is straightforward. It involves a blood test and a urine sample, typically collected at a pathology clinic. The blood test checks for syphilis, HIV, and hepatitis B. The urine sample is tested for chlamydia and gonorrhoea using nucleic acid amplification testing, the most accurate method available. If you have had oral or anal sex, self-collected throat and rectal swabs can detect infections at sites that blood and urine testing alone would miss. These swabs are collected by you in a private space and take under a minute each.

Timing matters when it comes to testing. Chlamydia and gonorrhoea can be reliably detected from two weeks after exposure. Syphilis takes approximately four weeks. HIV can take two to six weeks depending on the test used. Testing before these window periods may produce a false negative, so your doctor may recommend retesting if the initial result does not match your risk profile.

If a test comes back positive, most STIs are easily treated. Chlamydia is treated with a short course of antibiotics. Gonorrhoea and syphilis require specific antibiotic treatment guided by current resistance patterns. Herpes is managed with antiviral medication. HIV, when detected early, is treated with highly effective antiretroviral therapy. The key is early detection — the sooner an infection is identified, the simpler the treatment and the lower the risk of complications or onward transmission.

Clinic365 makes your STI test online as simple as possible. You do not need an appointment at the pathology centre — simply walk in during opening hours with your referral. Blood collection and urine samples take less than ten minutes. Self-collect swabs for throat, vaginal, and rectal sites are performed in a private room and take under two minutes. Most results are sent directly to you by SMS within 24 hours. No need to call the clinic or make a follow-up appointment to receive your results.
