Everything you need to know about PrEP refills

The Clinic365 PrEP refill service is designed for existing patients who have already completed a telehealth or in-person consult for PrEP with one of our Specialist GPs and need a repeat prescription. There is no appointment and no telehealth call — you complete a short online safety questionnaire, and both your pathology referral and prescription are sent to you by SMS. Prep Refill Online through Clinic365 — from anywhere in Australia.

PrEP requires 3-monthly monitoring including HIV testing, kidney function, STI screening, and hepatitis B serology. Your pathology referral is sent by SMS as part of the refill — walk into any pathology collection centre across Australia to get your bloods done. No appointment needed at pathology. Your Specialist GP reviews the results and your treatment is sent to you by SMS.

This service covers repeat treatment for daily PrEP (PBS-eligible HIV prevention) at the same dose. If you want to discuss on-demand (event-based) dosing, switch medications, or have concerns about side effects, a full telehealth consultation ($59) is required. The refill service is strictly for the same medication at the same dose.

PrEP is PBS-eligible and costs approximately $7 with a concession card, or $30–$42 without. Your prescription includes repeats for 3 months of supply. You will need to complete your 3-monthly bloods before each refill. This service is only available to existing Clinic365 patients who have previously been assessed for PrEP by one of our Specialist GPs.

The safety questionnaire is a critical part of the refill process. It screens for any changes to your health since your last review that might affect the safety or appropriateness of your current medication. This includes new medications, changes in medical history, side effects, and any new symptoms. If the questionnaire identifies any concerns, you will be directed to book a full telehealth consultation ($59) instead of the refill — this ensures your medication remains safe and clinically appropriate. The refill service is designed for stable, uncomplicated repeat prescriptions only.

Australian prescribing guidelines recommend a comprehensive medication review at least every twelve months for ongoing prescriptions. This review includes a discussion of medication effectiveness, side effects, whether the current dose remains appropriate, and whether any alternative treatments should be considered. Annual reviews can be completed via telehealth ($59) and are an important part of safe, ongoing care. Your electronic prescription can be filled at any pharmacy in Australia and includes repeats as clinically appropriate for your specific medication and circumstances.

If you experience any side effects, new symptoms, or concerns about your medication between reviews, do not wait for your next scheduled review — book a telehealth consultation ($59) promptly. Your Specialist GP can assess the situation, adjust your treatment plan if needed, and ensure you continue to receive the safest and most effective care. Clinic365's refill service exists to make ongoing medication access easy and convenient, while maintaining the clinical standards expected of responsible prescribing.

The Clinic365 refill service is exclusively available to existing patients who have previously completed a telehealth or in-person consultation with one of our Specialist GPs for the relevant medication. This ensures that appropriate clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment initiation have been performed before repeat prescriptions are issued. New patients or those seeking to start a new medication should book a telehealth consultation ($59) for initial assessment and prescribing.
